Title New Phone Nerves
Just gave my kid their first phone and wow, I forgot how wild the internet can be. Last week he clicked a random link from a game chat and it freaked me out. I’m looking for parental control programs that real parents use, mainly for safety alerts and app control, not full spying.

Hey, I totally get the panic mode! My daughter's 11 and got her phone last spring. Two days in, she was chatting with "someone from school" who definitely wasn't from her school.
That wake-up call sent me down the rabbit hole researching everything. I ended up checking out a bunch of reviews comparing different apps. Found this really helpful breakdown at Qustodio review that actually explained what each feature does in plain English, not marketing speak.
What worked for us was finding something that alerts me about sketchy stuff without me reading every single text like some helicopter parent. My kid knows I can see her apps and gets why - we framed it as training wheels, not punishment.
The game chat thing is SO real though. Those are sketchy as hell. We disabled in-app browsers entirely because kids just don't think before clicking. Start with blocking those random link situations first - that alone helps tons!
