My Doctor Said Cervical Radiculopathy
My patient asked me what are symptoms of a pinched nerve in the neck after my diagnosis. I'm a therapist and I've been sitting with my head bent forward for 12 hours straight. Now I have constant numbness in my pinky and ring finger. Last week I dropped my phone twice because my fingers wouldn't close. I know it's in the neck but which symptoms match cervical radiculopathy? Anyone get this?

That numbness in your pinky and ring finger is a classic sign of C8 nerve root compression - that’s cervical radiculopathy for sure. As a fellow therapist, I had the exact same thing after a 14-hour client day with my head bent forward over tables. My pinky and ring finger went numb, I dropped my phone twice, and I even had trouble gripping my water bottle. Symptoms that match cervical radiculopathy include: burning/shooting pain from neck down the arm, numbness or tingling in specific fingers (pinky/ring = C8, thumb/index = C6), weakness in the hand or arm, and symptoms that get worse when turning your head or extending your neck. This page helped me confirm the pattern and explain it to my own clients: trapped nerve in neck causes and how long it lasts breaks down which nerve roots cause which symptoms. You’re not alone in this.
